4.1.1 EFI Firmware Boot Manager

When you boot the x455, it will go through the POST and a number of checks.
During this time the various components such as the video port are not fully
operational so the information displayed is in basic text mode. Figure 4-1 shows
a typical boot up screen with the following information:
Build date and time of the EFI/SAL (equivalent to BIOS on IA-32 systems)
Partition number
Node number within the partition
Number of processors
Amount of memory
Stage the checkpoint has reached
Node CPU indicates which node and CPU generated the associated
checkpoint entry just above it on the screen

In a multinode configuration this screen will reflect the information pertaining to
the partition and partition node members.
After the checkpoints the hardware components are listed; while this proceeds a
number of screens of information will appear. After this you will automatically
enter the EFI Firmware Boot Manager menu (as shown in Figure 4-2 on
page 94). The menu is the starting point from which you will initiate any actions.
After installing an operating system, the option to start the operating system
becomes the first one. By default, when booting the server, the first option is
loaded if no key is pressed. This is normally 30 seconds. The menu order and
timeout values can be altered as described in "Boot Option Maintenance" on
page 122.
