The first time a complete backup is performed on the media server, it may take a few
hours or a few days, depending on how many files are loaded into the media server's hard
drive, and how much the media server is being used during the backup. Once the initial
backup is performed, subsequent backups should take much less time. These are incre-
mental backups and only copy those files that are new or have changed since the last
backup.
To create a backup, connect the external hard drive to the USB or FireWire port on
the back of the SMS3.
Select Options & Status from the home page, and choose Backup/Restore. Select
Backup. The media server will display "Backup (Restore) in progress" on the screen. Once
the backup procedure is complete, the SMS3 will display "Backup procedure is complete"
when finished.
If Auto-Backup is selected, choose Enable or Disable. If enabled, the media server will
perform a backup every day at 4 a.m. This time is derived from the media server's system
time.
Backups
When Auto-Backup is
enabled, check the media
server's system time. The
backup starts daily at 4 a.m.
according to the system
time. If the server time is
incorrect, the backup time
will be off as well.
