AIR CLEANER

WARNING
Do not use petrol or inflammable sol-
vents to wash the air cleaner, in order to
avoid fires or explosions.
Carefully read p. 39 (MAINTENANCE).
Check the conditions of the air cleaner and
clean it monthly or every 4000 km, depend-
ing on the conditions in which the vehicle is
used.
If the vehicle is used on dusty or wet roads,
the cleaning operations and any replace-
ment should be carried out more frequent-
ly.
Before the cleaning operation, it is neces-
sary to remove the air cleaner from the ve-
hicle.

REMOVAL
Lift the fuel tank, see p. 53 (LIFTING
THE FUEL TANK).
Unscrew and remove the screw (1).
Unscrew and remove the six screws (2).
Remove the filter case cover (3).
Remove the filtering element (4).
Remove the grid (5).
CAUTION
Plug the opening with a clean cloth, to
prevent any foreign matters from enter-
ing the suction pipes.
CLEANING
Clean the filtering element (4) with clean,
non-inflammable solvents or solvents
with high volatility point, then let it dry
thoroughly.
Apply a filter oil or a thick oil (SAE 80W-
90) on the whole surface of the filtering
element, then squeeze it to eliminate the
oil in excess.
NOTE
The filtering element (4) must be
well impregnated, though not dripping.
REMOVING
THE EXHAUST SILENCER
Carefully read p. 39 (MAINTENANCE).
WARNING
Before carrying out the following opera-
tions, let the engine and the exhaust si-
lencer cool down until they reach room
temperature, in order to avoid burns.
Remove the right fairing, see p. 52 (RE-
MOVING THE SIDE FAIRINGS).
Remove the two springs (6).
Release the clip (11) and disconnect the
secondary air pipe (12).
Unscrew and remove the screw (7) and
take the washer.
Unscrew and remove the screw (8) and
take the washer.
Take the support (9).
Support the exhaust silencer and with-
draw it from the exhaust manifold (10).
