If the chain needs adjusting after the
inspection, proceed as follows:
Loosen the 4 screws (2).
Partially loosen the lock nuts (3).
Adjust chain tension by turning nuts (4).
After the adjustment, tighten the lock
nuts (3).
Tighten the 4 screws (2).
Check
chain
slack
complies
specified values.

CHECKING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS
FOR WEAR
Visually inspect chain, front and rear
sprockets looking for:
√ damaged chain rollers;

√ loose chain link pins;
√ dry, rusty, warped or seized links;
√ exceeding wear;
√ exceedingly worn or damaged sprocket

teeth.

CAUTION
If chain rollers are damaged and/or
chain link pins are loose, renew the
drive chain and the front and rear
sprockets as a set.
L u b r i c a t e t h e c h a i n f r e q u e n t l y ,
especially if you find any dry or rusty
parts.
Change the chain if some links are
warped or have seized.
If this is not possible, have the chain
with
replaced at an Aprilia Authorised
Dealer.
CLEANING AND LUBRICATION
Never wash the drive chain using steam
cleaners, high-pressure water nozzles or
highly flammable solvents.
Wash the drive chain with fuel oil or
kerosene. If the chain tends to become
rusty quickly, service more frequently.
Wash and dry the chain, lubricate it with
recommended grease (see lubricant
table).
CAUTION
Do not ride when you
have only just lubricated the chain.
Centrifugal force would cause the newly
applied lubricant to fly all over adjacent
vehicle parts.
