Start and Adjust the Pump

Start and Adjust the Pump
Keep hands and fingers away from the priming piston
during operation and whenever the pump is powered
on. The priming piston extends beyond the intake
housing to pull material into the pump and can ampu-
tate a hand or finger caught between it and the intake
housing. Follow the Pressure Relief Procedure on
page 14 before checking, clearing, or cleaning the
priming piston.
Before starting, ensure that the outlet check valve (N)
is installed on the pump and functioning properly. A
faulty outlet check valve can result in excessive pump
speed causing high voltage internally to the electric
driver.
1. Pull the pressure adjustment knob (K) out and turn it
counterclockwise until it stops. Push the knob in to
lock it.

2. Turn the disconnect switch (J) OFF. Connect the
unit to a power source. See Connect Power on
page 8 for information about connecting the power
cord to the electric driver.
3. Supply fluid to the pump, per the requirements of
your system.
4. Turn the disconnect switch (J) ON.

5. Pull the pressure adjustment knob (K) out and turn it
clockwise until the pump starts moving. Once the
pump is moving, push the knob in to lock it.
6. Cycle the pump slowly until all air is pushed out and
the pump and hoses are fully primed.
7. Release the gun/valve trigger and lock the trigger
safety. The pump should stall against pressure.
To reduce the risk of fluid injection, do not use your
hand or fingers to cover the bleed hole on the under-
side of the bleed valve (G) when priming the pump.
Use the handle or a crescent wrench to open and
close the bleed plug. Keep your hands away from the
bleed hole.
8. If the pump fails to prime properly, open the pump
bleed valve (G) slightly. Use the bleed valve on the
underside of the valve as a priming valve until the
fluid appears at the hole. Close the valve.
NOTE: Always use the lowest possible fluid pressure to
bleed air out of the pump.

Do not allow the pump to run dry. It will quickly accel-
erate to a high speed, causing damage. If your pump
is running too fast, stop it immediately and check the
fluid supply. If the container is empty and air has
been pumped into the lines, refill the container and
prime the pump and the lines, or flush and leave it
filled with a compatible solvent. Eliminate all air from
the fluid system.
