LONG-TERM STORAGE
Prepare the pump for long-term storage (more than 30 days)
as follows.
„ Run the engine for about three minutes, then stop the
engine.
„ While the engine is off but still warm, drain the engine
oil. Fill the engine crankcase with fresh oil.
„ Drain the fuel tank completely.
„ Wipe off any oil or dirt that has accumulated on the
engine.
„ Remove the drain plug from the pump and completely
drain any water left in the pump housing.
„ Open the pump cover and clean the interior of the pump
casing. Coat the interior of the pump casing with a light
film of oil to reduce corrosion. A spray can of oil works
well for this application.
„ To protect the water-cooled seals, pour a half-pint of
lubricating oil through the discharge opening on the
pump and crank the engine several times. This will keep
the mechanical seal lubricated and prevent excessive
corrosion.
„ Cover the suction and discharge ports with duct tape
to prevent any foreign matter from entering the pump.
„ Cover the pump and engine with a plastic sheet and
store them out of direct sunlight, in a location that is free
of moisture and dust.
