lift the saw out by the
convenient carrying
handle, as shown in
Figure 1.
Place the saw on a
smooth, flat surface
such as a workbench or
strong table.
Examine the two figures on page 5 to become familiar with
the saw and its various parts. The section on adjustments
will refer to these terms and you must know what and where
the parts are.
Press down lightly on the operating handle and pull out the
lock down pin, as shown in Figure 2. Gently release the
downward pressure and hold the arm allowing it to rise to its
full height. Use the lock down pin when carrying the saw from
one place to another. Always use the carrying handle to
transport the saw or the hand indentations shown in Fig. 2.
Bench Mounting
Holes are provided in all four feet to facilitate bench mount-
ing, as shown in Figure 2. (Two different sized holes are pro-
vided to accommodate different sizes of screws. Use either
hole, it is not necessary to use both.) Always mount your
saw firmly to a stable surface to prevent movement. To
enhance the tool's portability, it can be mounted to a piece
of 1/2" or thicker plywood which can then be clamped to
your work support or moved to other job sites and
reclamped.
NOTE: If you elect to mount your saw to a piece of ply-
wood, make sure that the mounting screws don't protrude
from the bottom of the wood. The plywood must sit flush on
the work support. When clamping the saw to any work sur-
face, clamp only on the clamping bosses where the mount-
ing screw holes are located. Clamping at any other point
will surely interfere with the proper operation of the saw.
l& CAUTION: To prevent binding and inaccuracy, be sure
the mounting surface is not warped or otherwise uneven. If
the saw rocks on the surface place a thin piece of material
under one saw foot until the saw sits firmly on the mounting
surface.
Installing a New Saw Blade (Fig. 3)
(UNPLUG THE MITER SAW)
DO NOT CUT FERROUS METAL (THAT WiTH AN iRON
OR STEEL CONTENT) OR MASONRY WITH THIS
MITER SAW.
With the saw arm in the upper position, raise the lower
guard as far as possible. Loosen (but do not remove) the
DW7082
DW7084
guard bracket screw (A), until the guard bracket can be
raised enough to permit access to the blade screw. The
blade guard will be held in the raised position by the guard
bracket screw. Depress the spindle lock button, (Detail
Drawing 1). Use the supplied blade wrench in the other
hand to loosen (clockwise) the left hand threaded blade
screw.
NOTE: To use the spindle lock, depress the button and rotate
the blade by hand until you feel the lock engage. Continue to
hold the lock button in to keep the spindle from turning.
Remove the blade screw and the blade.
As shown in the Detail 2 on page 5, the inner clamp wash-
er (A) is installed first, then the blade adapter (B). The
blade adapter is designed to permit the use of saw blades
with 1" arbor holes.
When using blades with 1" arbor holes, install the blade
adapter over the spindle shaft and against the inner clamp
washer, as shown in the figure. Next, install the saw blade
making sure that the arbor hole in the blade locates on the
blade adapter. Make sure that the teeth at the bottom of the
blade are pointing toward the back of the saw (away from
the operator). Install the outer clamp washer (C) and install
the blade screw (D). Tighten firmly using the spindle lock
and the provided wrench (left hand threads). When using
saw blades with 5/8" arbor holes, remove the blade
adapter! Save it in a safe place for future use. The rest of
the blade assembly is exactly the same.
CAUTION: NEVER DEPRESS THE SPINDLE LOCK
BUTTON WHILE THE BLADE IS ROTATING.
BE SURE TO HOLD THE GUARD BRACKET DOWN
AND FIRMLY TIGHTEN THE GUARD BRACKET
SCREW WHEN YOU FINISH iNSTALLiNG THE SAW
BLADE. FAILURE TO DO SO WiLL CAUSE SERIOUS
DAMAGE TO THE SAW AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL
INJURY.
Transporting the Saw

MENTS WHAT SO EVER!
In order to conveniently carry the miter saw from place to
place, a carrying handle has been included on the top of
the saw arm and hand indentations in the base, as shown
in Figure 4.
Adjustments
PERFORM ALL ADJUSTMENTS WITH THE MITER
SAW UNPLUGGED
NOTE: Your miter saw is fully and accurately adjusted at
the factory at the time of manufacture. If readjustment due
to shipping and handling or any other reason is required,
follow the steps below to adjust your saw.
