5.8 - Heat transfer medium brine

Sizing and routing the brine collector is the system installer's
responsibility and must be carried out in compliance with CARRIER
guidelines. The design of the source energy connection is such
that the brine circuit can be flushed or vented at any time. First
calculate the required quantity of heat transfer medium. It is
determined based on the line length, pipe diameter and heat pump
water capacity. Pour all the heat transfer medium into a clear
container and mix well.
The antifreeze should be ethylene glycol with a mixing ratio of
25%-30% volume, corresponding to a resistance of -12°C to
-15°C.
The antifreeze must not be mixed with corrosive raw water (pH
value below 7.0), distilled water or rain water.
PLEASE NOTE:
As protection against corrosion is reduced over
the years, we recommend a water analysis every
two years.
Check the frost protection, pH value and reserve alkalinity. Tests
must be carried out with a representative quantity (e.g. 3x 1/4 l).
Check the mixing ratio is correct with a refractometer. Fill the
system in such a way as to ensure correct venting.
For reliable operation, ensure a temperature
differential of 4 K between the inlet and outlet of the
evaporator (source).
The flow velocity in the piping networks should not
exceed 1,0 m/s (noise/pressure drop).

5.9 - Flow rate measurement for brine

The WQA heat pump flow sensor is an optional accessory and
must be installed by the system installer according to CARRIER
installation guidelines. Observe the information in the operating
manual for flow meters.
If the flow sensor is poorly installed or no sensor is fitted, CARRIER
will not commission the system.
CARRIER does not accept liability for possible
damage if a flow sensor is not installed or is
inadequately fitted, sized or wired.

5.9.1 - Collection shaft
When installing a collection shaft, a "pipe liner" (shaft drain pipe)
with a fall towards the collection shaft is required.
