M@ RECORDING LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
The most important factor for good recording
results is the recording level adjustment. If the
recording level is set at maximum, the signal-to-
noise ratio (S/N) and the dynamic range(range of
sound volume) will improve, but if it is set too
high, the sound quality will deteriorate. On the
contrary when the recording level is set too low in
order to avoid distortion, tape hiss noise becomes
too evident. Even among tapes of the same type,
the tape characteristics may differ according to
maker and kind. It is therefore important to
determine the optimum recording level for each
tape used, in order to obtain good recordings by.
fully utilizing the tape characteristics.
