    Occupant safety Not wearing a seat belt is like believing "It'll never happen to me!". Volvo, the inventor of the three- point seat belt, urges you and all adult occupants of your car to wear seat belts and ensure that children are properly restrained, using an infant, car or booster seat determined by age, weight and height.

  • Page 11 As an enhancement to the three-point seat belt system, your Volvo is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). The Volvo SRS consists of an airbag (2) on both the driver's and passenger's sides and seat belt tensioners in both front door pillars (4). The system is designed to supplement the protection provided by the three-point seat belt system.
  • Page 12 · When installing any optional equipment, make sure that the SRS system is not damaged. Do not attempt to service any component of the SRS yourself. Attempting to do so may result in serious personal injury. If a problem arises, take your car to the nearest authorized Volvo retailer for inspection as soon as possible.

  • Page 14 Volvo's dual-threshold air bags use special sensors that are integrated with the front seat buckles. The point at which the air bag deploys is determined by whether or not the seat belt is being used, as well as, the severity of the collision.

The SIPS airbag system consists of airbag modules built into the sides of both front seat backrests (1), cables (2) from these modules to the mechanical sensor units (3) and gas generators (4).

    · If your car has been involved in a collision, the front seat backrests must be inspected by an authorized Volvo retailer even if the seats appear to be undamaged. Certain components in the WHIPS system may need to be replaced. Do not attempt to service any component in the WHIPS system yourself.

  • Page 33 If the warning lamp remains on after the engine has started or comes on while you are driving, the ROPS self-diagnostic system has detected a fault. The car should be driven to an authorized Volvo retailer as soon as possible for inspection.

The previously selected cruise speed is retained in the memory and by momentarily setting the switch to the RESUME position, that speed will be reengaged. If the cruise control is already engaged, the cruising speed can be increased or decreased by depressing the SET button (A) towards either + or -.

When switched on, the system senses the ambient temperature and regulates the level of heat applied. When the optimum temperature is reached, the heating switches off automatically.
  • Page 50 2002 Volvo C70 Coupe & Convertible WARNING! Always use the parking brake (hand brake) when parking. On hills, also turn the front wheels toward the curb. The indicator light in the instrument panel will light up even if the parking brake is only applied slightly.

The starting (ignition) switch must be ON (intermediate position I) for the electrically operated windows to function.

The starting (ignition) key must first be turned to the drive position (position II). The sun roof is also equipped with a one-touch, AUTO-open function.

    2002 Volvo C70 Coupe & Convertible Wind deflector (option/accessory) Installing the wind deflector: · Fold out the panels on the sides of the wind deflector (1). · Slide the two metal slats on the wind deflector under the rear seat head restraints (2). Slide them carefully to avoid damaging the upholstery.

    The car can only be started if a properly coded key is used. If you misplace a key, take the other keys to an authorized Volvo retailer. The existing code in the start inhibitor module and all the keys will be erased as an antitheft measure and a new code will be programmed in.
  • Page 70 WARNING! Volvo does not recommend using the transmitter to lock the doors from inside the car. On cars equipped with an alarm, the alarm would be activated and would sound when one of the doors is opened. The doors must not be locked using the remote transmitter while the vehicle is occupied. In case of an accident, this may hinder rapid access to the occupants of the vehicle.
