Application Guide
Tape Sync
Tape sync refers to synchronizing a MIDI device, such as a sequencer or a drum machine,
to the recorded sound. The tape sync operation has the following merits:
© You can save the number of tracks utilized, because you do not need to record MIDI performance
data onto the tape.
©You can mixdown the dynamic sounds of electronic musical instruments, such as a synthesizer
or drum machine directly, achieving better sound quality.
©Tape sync allows for more flexible and advanced editing, such as overdubbing MIDI sequencing
songs, replacing a rhythm pattern of the drum machine, etc.

One-Point Advice!

You need to record and play back the "FSK signal" on Track 4 to achieve the tape sync
operation.
The FSK signal is a sound signal created by modulating the MIDI clock (one of the MIDI
signals) of the song tempo information output from sequencers and drum machines so that
it can be recorded onto the tape. The track containing the FSK signal performs a role similar
to an orchestra conductor. When you send the FSK signal to the sequencer or drum
machine, the sequencer or drum machine will play back the song, synchronizing the signal.
Note:---
Some MIDI devices are not able to input or output an FSK signal. If this is the case with your MIDI
device, you will need a separate MIDI/FSK converter. For details, consult the manual for your MIDI
device.
