ENGINE
OIL AND FILTER
Engine
oil
quality
is
the chief
factor
affecting
engine
service
life.
Change the
engine
oil
and
filter
when
specified by
the
maintenance
schedule-
NOTE:
*
Change
the
engine
oil
and
filter
with
the
engine
warm and
the
motorcycle
on
its
center stand
to
assure
complete
and
rapid
draining.

To
drain
the
oil,
remove
the
oil
t'illcr
cap
and
oil
drain
plug
(l).
2.
Remove
the
oil
filter (3) with
a
I'iltcr
wrench
and let the
remaining
oil
drain
out.
Discard the
oil
filter
(3).
3.
Apply
a
thin
coat
of
engine
oil
to
the new
oil
filter
rubber
seal (4).
4.
Install the
new
oil filter
and tighten
it
to
the specified
torque.
Torque specification: l5-20
N.m
(1.5-2.0
ke-m, I
l-14
ft-lb).
Check
that
thc
scaling washers (2)
on
the
drain
plugs
alc
itt good
condition
and
in-
stall thc
plrr11s.

filler
cap.
Start
the
engine and
let
it
idle for
2-3
minutes.
Stop
the
engine
and
check
that
the
oil
level is
at the
upper level
mark
on
the
dipstick.
Make sure there are
no
oil
leaks.
NOTE:
*
When running
in
very dustY
con-
ditions,
oil
changes
should
be
Per-
formed
morc
frcquently
than
specified
in
the
maintenance
schedule.
CAUTION:
*
To prevent
oil
leaks
and
filter
damage,
never
support the
engine
on the
oil
filte
r.
