Getting Started
Initial Inspection
Please inspect the shipping container for damage. If the shipping container or packaging material is
damaged, it should be kept until the contents have been checked mechanically and electrically. If
there is mechanical damage, notify the nearest Agilent Technologies office. Keep the damaged
shipping materials (if any) for inspection by the carrier and an Agilent representative. If required, you
can find a list of Agilent Technologies sales and service offices page 2-75 and 2-76 of this manual.
Checking the Shipment
After you receive the instrument, carry out checks during unpacking according to the following
procedure.
WARNING: When unpacking the instrument, if the external face of the instrument (such as the cover,
front/rear panel, LCD screen, power switch, and port connectors) appear to be damaged during
transport, do not turn on the power switch. Otherwise, you may get an electric shock.
Step 1. Check that the packing box or shock-absorbing material used to package the instrumen has not
been damaged.
NOTE: If the packing box or shock-absorbing material has been damaged, leave the packing box and
shock absorbing material as is until other inspection items are checked as follows:
Step 2. Check the packaged items supplied with the instrument for any damage or defects.
Step 3. By referring to the List of Items Furnished document, check that all packaged items supplied
with the instrument have been provided as per the specified options.
Step 4. After checking, if one of the following applies, contact your nearest Agilent Technologies
sales and service office.
1. The packing box or shock-absorbing material used to package the instrument has been damaged or
the shock-absorbing material has traces where extreme force has been applied.
2. A packaged item supplied with the instrument has mechanical damage or defects.
3. A packaged item supplied with the instrument is missing.
4. A fault has been detected in the subsequent operational check of the instrument.
If an abnormality is detected in step 1, contact the company that transported the instrument as well as
your nearest Agilent Technologies sales and service office. For inspection by the transport company,
save the packing box, shock-absorbing material, and packaged items as you received them.

Introduction

One of the first things you will want to do with your power meter is to switch it on and become
acquainted with its front panel. The sections in this chapter prepare the power meter for use and help
you get familiar with some of the front panel operations. The front panel consists of both hardkeys
and softkeys which allow you to select various functions and operations. When some hardkeys are
selected the corresponding softkey labels are displayed on the power meter display.
