Troubleshooting
Flash malfunction warning
While the SB-R200 is used as a wireless remote flash unit, the red ready-light
rapidly blinks four times and stops for 0.5 sec. This cycle is repeated six times if
the flash unit receives a signal such as Non-TTL auto flash or Repeating flash.
Problems with the Commander SU-800 and the Remote
Speedlight SB-R200
Problem
The SB-R200
does not fire.
Vignetting occurs The shutter speed set is faster or

Cause
The SB-R200's power is off.
Different channel numbers are set
to the Commander (SU-800) and
the SB-R200.
Different group names are set to
the Commander (SU-800, etc.) and
SB-R200.
Control signal from the
Commander (SU-800, etc.) does
not reach the light sensor window
of the SB-R200.
slower than the flash sync speed.
Vignetting occurs with a wide
angle lens
Light from the flash unit enters the
camera lens or light sensor window
on the flash unit.
The SU-800 is set to close-up
mode.
Camera's focus mode is set to
"AF-C".
Solution
Confirm that the red ready-light
comes on.
Set the same channel number to
both flash units.
Set the same group to both flash
units.
Rearrange the position of the
SB-R200 so that the light from the
Commander reaches the SB-R200.
Set the shutter speed to the flash
sync speed.
Change the lens' focal length.
Rearrange the position of the
camera or flash unit so that the
light does not enter the lens or light
sensor window.
In the close-up mode, the
AF-Assist Illuminator on the
SU-800 does not illuminate.
However, camera's AF-assist
illuminator turns on.
Set camera's focus mode to
"AF-S".
