a6: AF Activation
Choose whether the shutter-release button can be used to focus.
Option
[Shutter/AF-ON]
[AF-ON only]
Highlighting [AF-ON only] and pressing 2 displays [Out-of-focus release] options.
Option
[Enable]
Photos can be taken whenever the shutter-release button is pressed (release priority).
Photos can be taken only when the camera is in focus (focus priority).
[Disable]
Focus using the AF-ON button or other controls to which AF-ON has been
assigned.

Caution: "Pinpoint AF"
If [Pinpoint AF] is selected for AF-area mode with Custom Setting a6 [AF activation] set to [AF‑ON
only] and [Disable] chosen for [Out-of-focus release], the shutter can be released whether or not the
subject is in focus.
The camera focuses when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
The camera does not focus when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
