Operator Interface
VISTA Console Operator Interface
The VISTA (Vendor Independent SysTem Architecture) system is a network
electronic printing system interpreter and job controller. It accepts data from a
variety of hosts, manages the job queue, and distributes print jobs to the
DocuPrint 900/1300 printing system.
VISTA is described in detail in the VISTA User's Guide (p/n VISUSR_R24).
DocuPrint 900/1300 specifics are discussed in the following sections.
Running on the DocuPrint 900/1300, VISTA currently accepts Xerox and
IBM Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) data streams and converts them
to print on the DocuPrint 900/1300 printing system.
Software Overview
VISTA is an application software that requires the IBM OS/2 Warp Connect
operating system. OS/2 is a multitasking operating system that presents
information using a graphical user interface (GUI). Delphax installs and
configures the operating system and the VISTA software on the hard disk
before shipping the PC to your site.
Input Devices
VISTA supports various input devices, including:
Diskette
Xerox floppy disk (optional)
Half-inch steamer tape drive
Compact Disk Read Only Memory (CD-ROM)
cartridge tape (optional)
The open reel tape, cartridge and CD-ROM are all connected by a Small
Computer Systems Interface (SCSI). The SCSI card is housed in the VISTA
base unit.
Data can also reside on a hard disk, either on the VISTA base unit or on a
network drive.

Job Setup Files
Job setup requires you to select and edit, if necessary, three key job
configuration files. These are the profile, the resource set, and the job set.
These files are all text files which can be edited using an OS/2 editor, such as
EPM.
Profiles
Profiles are created or edited prior to each job being run. The profile contains
the information required to define the print job characteristics to VISTA. This
includes items such as the job priority, the resource and job sets to use, the
data source, and the output device.
Xerox and AFP input jobs require separate profiles as they include type
specific information. Profile entries which are common to all types of job
include:
JOBSET—specifies the drive, path and file name for the job set which is
to be used for this particular job.
RESSET—specifies the drive, path and file name for the resource set
which is to be used for this particular job.
DATASOURCE—gives either the name of the file to process or the name
of the client that is providing the data.
DATATYPE—specifies the source of the print data, that is whether the
data will come from disk, down a channel, from tape etc.
INPUT—provides the name of the input client.
OUTPUT—provides the name of the output client.
Profile options are described in Appendix A.
Job Sets and
Job sets and resource sets do not usually need to be created or edited for every
Resource Sets
job. Many profiles will often reference the same job and resource sets.
The job set defines where the native job controls and data reside, and where
the virtual data (VDD) files should be stored. For the Xerox input filter the job
controls are the JDL and JSL. For the AFP input filter they are the form and
page definitions.
The resource set defines the directories where the native resources (electronic
forms, fonts, images) reside. Each resource has a separate directory entry and
an entry specifying the file extension which they have been given.
The resource set also defines the location where the converted virtual
resources (VDO, VDF, VDI) will be placed.
Job set and resource set options are described in Appendix A.
