Handle Down (Fig. 2)
Bending Handle Down is best used for smaller diameters of conduit (½" and ¾"). Smaller diameter conduit needs less
force to bend. Before putting pressure on the conduit make sure to brace the bender and conduit well and maintain a
stable stance to reduce the risk of falling and poor-quality bends.
Figure 2
The Inner Angle Marks are located on the Dual Shoe
Benders only.
Marking Basics (Fig.3)
1. Measure the height of the required stub.
2. Measure and mark the stub length on the conduit.
This is Mark A.
3. See the Deduct length shown on the bender.
Subtract the Deduct length from Mark A and make a
new mark. This is Mark B.
4. Line up Mark B with the arrow on the bender and
bend the conduit

1. Place the handle end on the ground in front of and
between your feet.
2. Turn bender so the bending hook is pointing away
*
from you. On the Dual Shoe Hand Bender, you
should be able to see the inner angle marks to help
with identifying the angle while bending.
3. Insert the conduit so the end is toward the bend
hook. Align the arrow with the appropriate bending
mark.
4. Brace the handle with your foot so it is angled
slightly away from your body. This should prevent
the conduit from shifting and keep the bending mark
lined up.
5. Stand as close to the bender as possible. Brace
the conduit under your arm and close to your body.
Firmly grip the conduit and apply constant pressure
throughout the bend. Overbend Rigid/IMC conduit
slightly to compensate for springback.
6. Bend until the bottom edge of the conduit is in line
with the desired angle mark.
7. Inspect Bend
Back-to-Back 90° Stubs (Fig.4)
Line up the bending MARK B with the star point and
bend to 90° for both bends using the Handle Up method
Correcting Over Bends (Fig. 5)
Small adjustments to over bends
can be made by placing the open
end of the bender handle over the
conduit and bracing the conduit
with your foot to manipulate to
desired angle.
