BENDIX TU-FLO 550 CLEANING, INSPECTION,

CLEANING AND INSPECTION

Clean (Figure 3)
• All parts with solvent.
1. Cylinder head (20).
• Carbon deposits from the discharge cavities.
• Rust and scale from the cooling cavities.
• Foreign matter from body surfaces.
— Use compressed air to remove dirt.
2. Crankcase (43).
• Dirt from interior.
— Use compressed air to remove dirt.
3. Oil passages.
• Use a wire to open and clean oil passages in
the crankshaft and end covers.
• Use compressed air to remove dirt.
Inspect
1. Cylinder head body (43).
• Check for cracks and damage.

AND REPAIR

• Apply compressed air to one coolant port with
the others plugged.
• Check for leakage by applying a soap solution
to the exterior of the body.
• If leakage is found, replace the head.
2. End cover (30).
• For cracks and external damage.
• Crankshaft main bearing (sleeve) for wear and
flat spots.
3. Crankcase (43).
• Surfaces for cracks and damage.
• With a micrometer, measure the inside and out­
side diameters of the bearing surfaces.
; — Ball bearing - 0.0003 to 0.0023 inch differ-
ence.
— Sleeve, main bearing - not to exceed 0.005;
inch.
4. Crankshaft (33)..
• Threads, keyway, tapered ends, and machined
and ground surfaces for wear, scoring, or dam­
age. •
