Cause
• Amplifier protection circuitry has been
activated.
• Power cord is disconnected.
• There is external noise in the computer
circuits of the TX-DS656.
• AC fuse is blown.
• TAPE-2 MONITOR indicator is on.
• MUTING indicator is on.
• Bad connection
• Surround mode is set to HALL, LIVE,
ARENA, STUDIO, or STEREO.
• Center speaker is set to NONE.
• Center speaker output level setting is
improper.
• Poor phono grounding (GND) connection.
• Poor positioning of the audio connection
cables.
• Turntable and speakers are too close together.
• Check possible causes on connected components,
such as a worn pick-up stylus on the turntable.
• Treble control is too high.
• Subwoofer is set to NO.
• Subwoofer speakers output level setting is
improper.
• SPEAKERS REMOTE indicator is not lit.
• Sound volume for the sub-room is set to - dB.
• The remote controller is not directed
toward the remote sensor.
• There is an obstacle between the remote
controller and the sensor.
• There is a malfunction of either the
receiver or remote controller.
• Bad connection
Remedy
• Remove the AC plug from the outlet
immediately. Then contact your Onkyo
service center.
• Connect the power cord.

the unit for 5 seconds or more, and then
plug it again.
• Contact your Onkyo service center.

turn it off.
• Turn it off using the remote controller
MUTING button.
• Check the connection again. Insert the
plugs and connectors completely.
• In the HALL, LIVE, ARENA, and STUDIO
surround modes, the center speaker reproduces
sound effects only. This causes little output
from the Center speaker, in comparison with
the DOLBY PRO LOGIC mode. In the
STEREO mode, no sound is output from the
Center speaker.
• For the Center speaker, you must set the
speaker mode to SMALL, or LARGE.
• Check the output level of the Center speaker.
• Remove the grounding wire if hum is reduced.
• Position the audio connection cables to
obtain the least hum.
• Move them farther apart.
• Check possible causes according to the
other components' owner's manual.
• Turn the treble control down.
• Check the speaker setting.
• Check the output level of the Subwoofer
using the test tone.
• Press the SPEAKERS REMOTE button on
the remote controller or front panel.
• Increase the sound volume using the
VOLUME y button on the remote controller.
• Direct the remote controller to the sub-room
remote sensor.
• Remove the obstacle.
• Check the receiver and then the remote
controller in the main room to find out
which is malfunctioning.
• Check the connections again. Insert the
plugs and cables completely.
