15 Seat Deck & Fuel Tank Service
Seat Deck Removal and Installation
WARNING
Before beginning any service work, turn the PTO
off, set the parking brake, turn the ignition switch
off, remove the key, disconnect the spark plug
wire, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

Seat Deck Removal

1. Turn the ignition key switch to the OFF position,
remove the key, set the parking brake, and turn the
PTO off.
2. Remove the mower deck and any other accessories.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable
(see Section 7, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERVICE).
4. Remove the knob from the two-speed control lever by
pulling the knob straight off the lever.
5. Release the return spring (C) from the control lever (A).
NOTE: The lever can be reached from under the wheel
well.
6. Remove the cotter pin (B) and washer (D) from the
cruise control lever (A).
7. Remove the lever from the pivot bracket (E).
8. Tilt the seat (C, Figure 4) forward.
9. Disconnect the seat switch harness (F) and plug (B)
from the seat switch (D).
NOTE: The seat switch plug has a locking tab that must
be released before disconnecting the plug.
10. Slide the seat fully forward.
11. Remove the seat deck upper mounting hardware
consisting of two capscrews (E) securing the seat
deck to the seat deck support (H, Figure 3).
12. Remove the seat deck lower mounting hardware
(A, Figure 5) consisting of two hex flange capscrews
(D, Figure 6) and two nuts (F) with two hex head cap-
screws (E) securing the seat deck to the foot rests
(A).
NOTE: Some models have the hex head capscrew and
hex nut on the inner mounting holes and the hex flange
capscrew on the outer holes. Make sure the hex flange
capscrew is placed only in the threaded hole, regardless
of whether it is the inner or outer hole.
13. Remove the tail light sockets (B, Figure 7) with the
bulbs (C) from the tail light bezels (A).
14. Remove the gas cap (A, Figure 8).
15. Remove the seat deck assembly (B).
16. Reinstall the gas cap (A) onto the fuel tank.

Seat Deck Installation

1. Remove the gas cap (A, Figure 8).
2. Set the seat deck (B, Figure 8) onto the seat deck
support (H, Figure 3).
NOTE: Be sure the seat switch wire harness (F, Figure 4)
is routed through the seat deck (A) as shown in Figure 4.
3. Reinstall the gas cap (A, Figure 8).
