An air supply system must be set up during site preparation. The
customer must supply the compressed air to Honeywell-supplied filter-
regulators. A 1.27cm (0.5 in) minimum pipe must be run from the air
compressor or local compressed air tap to within approximately 1.5m (5
ft) of the projected location of the cable end support. The installation
drawings show how to assemble and install the filter-regulators. Rubber
hoses connect the compressed air to the scanner air supply manifold.
The incoming air must be filtered to prevent dirty air from causing
maintenance problems throughout the compressed air system. The
installation kit includes air filter regulators with automatic water drains
and coalescing after-filters.
The heads and cable end electronics module are cooled with circulating
fluid and air. The manner in which fluid is supplied to these systems
depends on local site conditions and the sensors to be used in the
particular system.

Head temperature control with coolant

An Environmental Control Unit (ECU) is located in the middle of each
head. The ECU provides the following functions:
• Controls sensor platform temperature.
• Controls the internal head air temperature.
• Provides air purge of the heads
• Provides sheet guide heating control

Sensor platform temperature control

A solenoid in the cooling water supply regulates the sensor platform
temperature to 38–49°C (100–120°F). Temperature feedback is provided by
a thermistor embedded in the sensor platform. The solenoid is controlled
by a Temperature Control PCB mounted on the top of the ECU. The
