Safety of Infants and Small Children

Protecting Infants
An infant must be properly restrained in a rear-facing, reclining child restraint system
until the infant reaches the restraint system manufacturer's weight or height limit
for the seat, and the infant is at least one year old.
74
Positioning a rear-facing child restraint
system
Child restraint system must be placed and
secured in a rear seating position.
u
We recommend that you install the child
restraint system directly behind the front
passenger's seat, move the seat as far
forward as needed, and leave it
unoccupied.
u
Make sure that there is no contact
between the child restraint system and
the seat in front of it.
If there is, you may wish to get a smaller
rear-facing child restraint system.

WARNING
3
Placing a rear-facing child restraint system
in the front seat can result in serious injury
or death if the passenger's front airbag
inflates.
Always place a rear-facing child restraint
system in the back seat, not the front.
As required by UN Regulation No. 94:
WARNING
3
NEVER use a rearward facing child restraint
on a seat protected by an ACTIVE AIRBAG
in front of it, DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY to
the CHILD can occur.
