Safety Start Interlock System

The mower's safety start interlock system consists of the
park brake switch, operator presence switch, deck clutch
switch, and neutral switch.

IMPORTANT: Repair this important safety feature immedi-
ately if it malfunctions.

This safety feature prevents mower runaway or accidental
entanglement during operation.
Check the mower's safety start interlock system daily,
prior to operation.
There are three different system checks to perform.
System Check 1
Checking the operator presence switch and deck clutch
switch
1. Stand on the operator's platform when testing the
operator presence switch.
2. Place both steering control levers in the neutral
position.
3. Place the park brake lever in the engaged park brake
position. Figure 3-5
4. Start the engine and allow it to warm up to operating
temperature.
5. With the deck clutch switch down (deck blades
disengaged), slowly step off the operator's platform.
The engine should continue to run.
6. Stand on the operator's platform again and move the
park brake lever to the disengaged position.
7. Pull the deck clutch switch up (deck blades engage).
8. With the deck clutch switch up (deck blades engaged),
slowly step off the operator's platform. The engine
should stop.
9. If the engine fails to function as it should in either Step 5
or Step 8 contact your Hustler
operator presence switch.
System Check 2
Checking the park brake switch
1. Stand on the operator's platform when testing the park
brake switch.
2. Place both steering control levers in the neutral
position.
3. Place the park brake lever in the disengaged park
brake position.
4. With the deck clutch switch down (deck blades
disengaged), try to start the engine. The engine should
not start.
5. If the engine starts, contact your Hustler
replace the park brake switch.
System Check 3
Checking the neutral switch
NOTE: The brake switch must be working properly before
the neutral switch can be checked.
1. Stand on the operator's platform.
2. Set both steering control levers in the neutral position.
3. Place the park brake lever in the engaged park brake
position.
