Installing the Blades
1. Place the blade onto the bolt and over the cone washer.
Select the proper number of spacers for the height-of-
cut and slide the bolt into the spindle (Fig. 32).
Important
The curved part of the blade must point
upward toward the inside of the mower to ensure proper
cutting.
2. Install the remaining spacers and secure them with a
thin washer and a nut (Fig. 32).
3. Torque the blade bolt to 75–80 ft.-lb. (101–108 N m).

Servicing the Air Cleaner

Service Interval/Specification
Foam element: Clean and oil it after every 25 operating
hours.
Paper element: Clean it after every 50 operating hours.
Replace it after every 200 operating hours.
Note: Service the air cleaner more frequently (every few
operating hours) if the operating conditions are extremely
dusty or sandy.
Removing the Foam and Paper Elements
1. Disengage the PTO, turn the ignition key to off, and
remove the key.
2. Wait for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position and then chock or block tires.
3. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt from getting
into the engine and causing damage. Pull out the
retaining locks and remove the air cleaner cover
(Fig. 35).
4. Unscrew the nut and remove the air cleaner assembly
(Fig. 35).
5. Carefully pull the foam element off the paper element
(Fig. 35).

Cleaning the Foam Element
1. Wash the foam element in liquid soap and warm water.
When the element is clean, rinse it thoroughly.
2. Dry the element by squeezing it in a clean cloth.
3. Put one or two ounces of oil on the element (Fig. 36),
and squeeze the element to distribute the oil.
