1. Paper element
Installing the Foam and Paper Elements
Important
To prevent engine damage, always operate
the engine with the complete foam and paper air cleaner
assembly installed.
1. Carefully slide the foam element onto the paper air
cleaner element (Fig. 35).
2. Place the air cleaner assembly onto the air cleaner base
(Fig. 35).
3. Install the air cleaner and secure with cover nut
(Fig. 35).

Servicing the Engine Oil

Change oil:
After the first 8 operating hours.
After every 100 operating hours.
Note: Change oil more frequently when operating
conditions are extremely dusty or sandy.
Oil Type: Detergent oil (API service SF, SG, SH or SJ)
Crankcase Capacity: with filter, 57 oz. (1.7 l)
without filter, 47 oz. (1.4 l)
Viscosity: See table below

Checking the Engine Oil Level
Note: Check oil when engine is cold.
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO) and turn the
ignition key to off. Move levers to neutral locked
position and apply parking brake. Remove the key.
2. Clean around the oil dipstick (Fig. 38) so dirt cannot
fall into engine.
3. Pull the oil dipstick and wipe the metal end clean
(Fig. 38).
4. Slide the oil dipstick fully into the engine. Pull the
dipstick out and look at the metal end (Fig. 38). If oil
level is low, slowly pour only enough oil into the filler
tube to raise the level to the full mark.
Important
Do not overfill the crankcase with oil
because the engine may be damaged. Do not run engine
with oil below the low mark because the engine may be
damaged.
