Filter Changes
Prefilter Carbon and Claryum
®
- Change every 6 months*
The Prefilter, Carbon and Claryum filter cartridges
®
are located in Stages 1, 2 and 4. It is recommended
replacing these cartridges at least every 6 months.
You may need to replace more often with high
water usage or high sediment level. Timely
replacement of these cartridges will protect the
RO Membrane from high levels of chlorine and/or
sediment. As these filters build up with sediment,
you may notice slower water output.
RO Membrane Cartridge
- Change every 2 years
The RO Membrane is located in Stage 3. This
membrane reduces the dissolved solids and organic
matter. Most municipally treated water has a 7.0-7.5
pH, in this case you would need to replace your RO
Membrane every 2 years. Membrane life depends on
pH and supply water hardness. Higher pH shortens
membrane life by causing pin-hole leaks. When
output, water quality and production rate decrease,
it is time to replace the filter.
Operational Notes
• The unit will often continue to produce
purified water after you have turned off the
faucet. The system monitors the pressure in
the storage tank and will keep it filled to the
required level.
• After installation, the TDS value of the filtered
water may be slightly higher than expected.
As you use the system, the TDS value will
decrease until the system stabilizes.
• The air gap faucet will make noise when the
unit is producing treated water. However, no
water should leak out of the vent hole in the
back of the faucet during operation. If water
leaks out of the air gap vent, turn off the unit
and check the drain lines for kinks or clogs.

Remineralizer with Microbial Filter
- Change every 6 months*
Stage 5 performs two functions. First, the
Microbial Filter reduces bacteria, viruses and
cysts. Secondly, the Remineralizer is designed to
return healthy amounts of calcium, magnesium
and potassium in the water.
*Filter life depends on water usage and water
supply quality.
WARNING
Use only the supplied housing wrenches to
remove or tighten sumps. Over-tightening
can cause damage and result in leaking.
Deactivating System
The system must not be allowed to freeze while
containing water. If the unit does freeze while in
normal operating conditions, the expanding ice
will damage the filter elements, compromising the
safety of the filtered water, and can cause physical
damage to the unit itself, including bursting the
tubing, fittings or filter housings and damage to
the pump and storage tank. If the unit is going to
be stored over winter and exposed to temperatures
below freezing, it should be prepared as follows:

Drain the storage tank:
• Turn off the cold-water inlet valve to the system.
• Ensure the storage tank valve is open.
• Turn on the dispensing faucet and allow it to
run until water stops flowing. During this time,
the low-pressure alarm will trigger. Disregard
the alarm and let the unit run until water stops
flowing from the faucet. At this point, the
storage tank should be empty.

Disconnect power from the system.

Remove the filter cartridges
(stages 1, 2, and 4):
• Place a tray underneath the System Manifold
to catch drips.
• Use the housing wrench supplied with the
system to loosen and remove the filter
housings from the System Manifold.
• Pour any water out of the housings and
remove the filter cartridges.
• Dispose of the used filter cartridges.
Long-term storage of the cartridges can
lead to contamination that can cause an
unsafe condition when the system restarts.
Replace with new filter cartridges before
restarting the system.
• Check that both O-rings are assembled to
the filter housings.
• Thread the housings back onto the
System Manifold and tighten with
the housing wrench.
Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or
of unknown water quality without adequate disinfection
before or after the system. Systems certified for cyst
reduction may be used on disinfected waters that may
contain filterable cysts.

Remove the RO Membrane:
• Remove the cover from the System Manifold
and locate the RO housing.
• Snap the RO housing loose from its
mounting brackets.
• Disconnect the white tubing from the
RO housing cap.
• Use the small housing wrench to remove the RO
housing cap. Note that water will be trapped in
the RO housing. Position the housing so that the
water is captured in a drip tray or bucket.
• Remove and dispose of the old RO Membrane.
Long-term storage of the RO Membrane can
lead to contamination that can cause an unsafe
condition when the system restarts. Replace with
a new membrane before restarting the system.
• Ensure the RO housing O-ring is seated correctly
and is not damaged.
• Screw on the housing cap. Use the small
wrench to tighten it about 1/4 turn.
• Reconnect the white tubing to the inlet
fitting on the cap.
• Snap the cap into position in the system
manifold.

Remove the Remineralizer Cartridge:
• Disconnect the connector elbows from the
Remineralizer inlet and outlet.
• Remove and dispose of the old Remineralizer
Cartridge. Long term storage of the cartridge can
lead to contamination that can cause an unsafe
condition when the system restarts. Replace with
a new unit before restarting the system.

Ensure the unit is unplugged and the cold-water
supply line is turned off while the unit is stored.
To reactivate the system, install the new RO
Membrane, Remineralizer Cartridge and Filter
Cartridges (see the instructions included with the
replacement elements), then start the system by
following the initial startup procedure.
