Service Manual
Removal:
1. Turn tension assembly dial to number 9.
2. Remove the tension assembly dial, the knobs of the zig-zag and needle position
levers, arm top cover and tension assembly schrouder .
3. Force in the direction shown by arrows in the illustration, the two retainers (C),
and pull out the tension assembly (O).
4. Turn adjusting knob insert (D) counterclockiwise all the way to release tension
spindle (E) from spindle nut (F).
5. Remove nut (F) , spring (G) , spindle (E) , thread guide (H), tension discs ( I ),
spring (J) and plate (K).
6. To disassembly take-up spring (L) remove clip (M) by pulling out of tension assembly
body (N), and remove take-up spring (L).
Replacement:
1. Replacement is the same as removal in reverse order, however take some time to
check the following:
The two tension discs ( I ) must be assembled with their convex
l
surfaces facing each other.
Plate (K) must be assembled with the three set outs resting agaist
l
concave side of the first tension disc ( I ).
To adjust tension assembly follow instructions given in the chapter
l
"Needle thread tension" on pages 97-98.
