    These procedures can often reveal the source of a problem or indicate the correct starting point for troubleshooting the computer. Dell recom- mends that you perform these procedures in the order they are presented in this manual.

Starting the diagnostics causes the Dell logo screen to appear, followed by a message indicating that the diagnostics is loading. Before the diagnostics loads, a program tests the portion of main memory (RAM) required for loading the diagnostics.

With the foot set to its fully retracted position, insert a small device (such as a scribe) into the bottom notch on the foot-retaining screw cover and gently lift out the cover partway. It also contains the LED board, which provides visual indications of many of the computer’s basic functions. The microphone assembly is mounted inside the right hinge cover of the display. Some parts of the display assembly can be removed and replaced without removing the assembly from the computer.
