Routing the hoses from the system to the manifold

You must attach and route the hoses that go from the system to the manifold.
To route the hoses from the system to the manifold, do the following:
1. Route the hoses through the cable-management arm so that the hoses exit on the side of the rack that
has the manifold installed.
2. Ensure that each hose is fully routed through the cable-management arm, so that the hoses will not be
kinked if the cable-management arm extends.

Turning on the water source and bleeding air from the system

You must turn on the water source in your location so that the water flows to the rack.
You can turn on the cooling distribution unit (CDU) after you have connected the manifold to your CDU
and after you have plugged your system into the manifold. To fill the system with water and to bleed the
air from the loop, follow the instructions that were provided with the CDU.
Note: The water that is used to cool the system must adhere to the water chemistry specifications. For
more information, see Water cooling system specification and requirements (http://www.ibm.com/
support/knowledgecenter/POWER8/p8had/p8had_wc_overview.htm).

Cabling the server and setting up a console

Your console, monitor, or interface choices are guided by whether you create logical partitions, which
operating system you install in your primary partition, and whether you install a Virtual I/O Server
(VIOS) in one of your logical partitions.

Determining which console to use:

There are different console types available to manage this server. Learn more about the consoles that are
available.

PowerKVM
is an open virtualization solution that is offered for the Power
Linux servers built on POWER8
PowerKVM delivers server virtualization based on open source Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM)
Linux technology. PowerKVM virtualization technology enables you to share real compute, memory, and
I/O resources through server virtualization. These virtual resources are used by virtual machines running
on the PowerKVM virtualized server.
PowerKVM-based server virtualization enables optimization and the commitment of resources like CPU
and memory. This helps you achieve superior resource usage, flexibility, and agility, resulting in cost
reduction through economies of scale.
To get started using PowerKVM virtualization technology on your system, see IBM PowerKVM.
