Important Safety Warnings Before moving on, there are several important safety notices that you should always keep in mind when using the Agilent 8697. When handling/using chemicals for preparation or use within the headspace sampler, all WAR N IN G applicable local and national laboratory safety practices must be followed. - Page 5 Lifting Lifting The headspace sampler is heavy. To avoid injury, use a two–person lift. WAR N IN G Make sure that all samples and trays have been removed prior to moving or relocating the C AU T I O N headspace sampler.

General warnings General warnings • Perform periodic leak checks on supply lines, fittings, and pneumatic plumbing to prevent a potentially hazardous condition. • To avoid a potential shock hazard when using liquid solution to locate leaks, turn the main power switch to standby and disconnect the main power cord. Be careful not to spill leak solution on electrical leads. -

Fume Hood Fume Hood During normal operation of the headspace sampler, some sample can exhaust from the sample vial out the headspace sampler vent. If any sample components are toxic or noxious, or if hydrogen is used as the carrier gas, these exhausts must be vented to a fume hood. Place the headspace sampler in the hood or attach a large diameter venting tube to the outlet for proper ventilation. -

This product complies with the EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and conforms to EN 50581. - Page 10 4 Make sure that all peripheral devices are also certified. 5 Make sure that appropriate cables are used to connect the device to peripheral equipment. 6 Consult your equipment dealer, Agilent Technologies, or an experienced technician for assistance. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by Agilent Technologies could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

Whenever the safety protection of the Agilent 8697 Headspace Sampler has been compromised, disconnect the unit from all power sources and secure the unit against unintended operation.

Intended Use Intended Use Agilent products must only be used in the manner described in the Agilent product user guides. Any other use may result in damage to the products or personal injury.
