8. Connect the PTO drive shaft to the drive unit's
attachment shaft. Pull back on the lock collar on the
PTO drive shaft, connect the PTO drive shaft to the
attachment shaft on the unit, and then release the lock
collar. Make sure the drive shaft is locked in place before
operating the deck.

9. Adjust the PTO safety switch so the tab on the deck
completely presses the switch plunger.
Loosen the hardware on the deck tab and pivot it against
the switch until the plunger is pressed completely.
IMPORTANT: The safety switch prevents the PTO from
engaging when the deck is pivoted into a service position or
when there are no attachments installed on the drive unit.

Before First Use
NOTE: The first time you install the deck, and any time you
reinstall a deck after it has been removed, check the deck for
side to side and front to back level. See MOWER LEVEL
AND PITCH on page 17.
Removal
1. Set the deck to its lowest cutting height.
2. Stop engine, wait for all moving parts to stop and hot
parts to cool, set the parking brake and remove the key
from the ignition.
3. Disconnect the PTO drive shaft from the drive unit's
attachment shaft. Pull the lock collar on the PTO drive
shaft forward, disconnect the PTO drive shaft from the
attachment shaft on the drive unit, and then release the
lock collar.
4. Unlock the rear (gold plated) lock latches and unlock the
lock latches on the lift arms.
5. Disconnect the hydraulic lift cylinder from the deck lift
arm. Keep the pin and spring clip on the deck for
reinstallation.
6. Pull the mower deck away from the unit and store the
deck according to instructions in STORAGE on page 19.
