    About the Power Plug When removing the power plug after turing off the printer, be sure to confirm that the POWER lamp is not lit. If the power plug is removed from the wall outlet with the POWER lamp still lit or flashing green, the printer may become unable to print.

    Hints for Handling the Paper Source This printer offers two paper sources to load printing paper; the Rear Tray (A) and the Cassette (B). Here are some hints for handling these paper sources according to how you are using them.
  • Page 12 Paper Feed Switch. You can also specify the type and size of paper to be fed from the Cassette using the printer driver. You can print more efficiently by specifying the type of paper you use regularly this way, since the paper source will be switched automatically to the Cassette for this paper.

    When You Are Not Using the Printer for a Long Time When you are not using the printer for a long time, print in both black & white and in color, or perform Print Head Cleaning, about once a month to prevent degradation of the Print Head.

    Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning. Paper tissue powders or fine threads may remain inside the printer and cause problems such as a blocked Print Head and poor printing results. Use a soft cloth to avoid scratching the components.

    If an Error Occurs When the Printer Is Connected to a Computer When an error occurs in printing such as the printer is out of paper or paper is jammed, a troubleshooting message is displayed automatically. Take the appropriate action described in the message.

    If the CD-ROM icon is not displayed, restart your computer. If the icon is still not displayed, try different disks and see if they are displayed. If other disks are displayed, there is a problem with the Setup CD-ROM. Contact a Canon Service representative.

    (1)Click the printer icon in the Dock to display the list of print jobs in progress. In Mac OS X v.10.2.8, click the printer icon in the Dock to start up the Print Center and double-click the name of your printer in the Printer List.

    Check if any of the missing colors are due to empty tanks. If there is plenty of ink and the printer does not print, clean the Print Head and then print the nozzle check pattern to check that ink is ejecting properly.

    Change the application software setting corresponding to the printer driver setting, or click the Print Options on the Page Setup sheet in the printer driver and select Disable the paper source setting of the application software on the Print Options screen.

    * Be careful not to touch the components inside the printer. If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the printer off and turn it back on. The paper may be ejected automatically. (2)Reload the paper in the printer, and press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer.

    ALARM Lamp Flashes Orange ALARM Lamp Flashes Orange When a printer error occurs, the ALARM lamp flashes orange as shown below. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that has occurred. Count the flashes and take the appropriate action to correct the error.
  • Page 82 (You will need to replace a particular part of the printer.) Important Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be performed until the ink absorber is replaced.
