9 Switching the Hedge Trimmer On/Off
9.1

Switching on the long-reach hedge trimmer

► Hold the long-reach hedge trimmer with one hand on the
control handle - wrap your thumb around the handle.
► Hold the long-reach hedge trimmer firmly with your other
hand on the loop handle or handle hose - wrap your thumb
around the loop handle or handle hose.
► Push the release slide (1) in the direction of the cutting
blades with your thumb and hold it there.
► Press the trigger (3) with your index finger and keep
depressed.
The motor accelerates and the cutting blades run.
The release slide can be released (1).
If the Ergo lever (2) is pressed, the trigger (3) remains
unlocked. This means the trigger can be released and
depressed again without having to push the release slide in
the direction of the cutting blades.
If the trigger (3) and the Ergo lever (2) are released, the
trigger (3) is locked. The release slide (1) must be pushed
towards the cutting blades again and held to unlock the
trigger (3).
9.2

Switching Off

► Release the trigger and Ergo lever

► Wait until the cutting blades come to a complete standstill
after about 1 second.
► If the cutting blades continue to run after about 1 second:
Remove the battery and contact your STIHL dealer for
assistance.
There is a malfunction in the hedge trimmer.

10.1 Checking the controls

Release slide, Ergo lever and trigger
► Remove the battery.
► Try squeezing the trigger switch without activating the
release slide.
► If the trigger can be pulled: Do not use the long-reach

hedge trimmer and contact your STIHL dealer for
assistance.
The release slide is faulty.
► Push the release slide in the direction of the cutting blades
with your thumb and hold it there.
► Press and hold Ergo lever.
► Press the trigger.
The release slide can be released.
► Release the trigger and the Ergo lever.
► If the release slide, trigger or the Ergo lever is stiff or does
not spring back to the idle position: Do not use the long-
reach hedge trimmer and contact your STIHL dealer for
assistance.
The release slide, trigger or the Ergo lever is defective.
Switching on the long-reach hedge trimmer
► Insert battery.
► Push the release slide in the direction of the cutting blades
and hold it there.
► Press and hold the trigger.
The cutting blades run.
