Model 1646 Variable Speed Receiver Installation Instructions Receivers are designed as the remote control device for operation of a motorized pan/tilt unit and a motorized lens unit. Since camera sites are often a great distance from the operator’s viewing location, these Receivers provide the operator with positive control of the camera site.

FEATURES FEATURES Pan/Tilt and Lens Control The 1646 Receiver provides drive outputs to control camera Pan/Tilt and Lens motors. The J6 connector, located on the side of the unit, contains all the connections required for the control of the Pan/Tilt and Lens units. (Refer to Figures 4 & 5 for the location of J6.) Table 1 provides the pan/tilt and lens motor voltage and current ratings for this unit.
INSTALLATION Preparation Several user configuration switches must be set (see SETUP instructions, page 4). If the unit is not configured correctly, damage to the unit, and any other device connected to it, may result. Check all wiring and cabling before applying power. Mounting The 1646 Receiver is an outdoor unit but can be used indoors also.

SETUP Camera Number Setup A 10-position DIP switch labeled "CAMERA ID" (see Figures 4 & 5, page 8) is used to associate a particular camera number with the Receiver. 1646M Receivers (Control Code) associate with camera identifiers of 1 - 64 only. Refer to Table 4 below and the Appendix for proper DIP switch settings.
1646S Series (RS-232 Code) To receive control code via the RS-232 line, first locate the RS-232 board (it is the top board). Set the following eight positions of the S1 and S2 DIP switches on the RS-232 board. (Figure 3 below shows the location of S1 and S2 on the RS-232 board).

CONNECTIONS CAUTION - Due to the presence of non-insulated components with hazardous voltages, the following internal adjustments should be performed by qualified service personnel only. To connect the 1646M or 1646S Receivers to external devices, refer to the following text and to the typical connections illustrated in the Appendix.
Code Line Connections for RS-232 (1646S Series) 1646S Receivers typically connect to other RS-232 devices via a wall-mount, 8-pin Terminal Box, HP0047. Matrix Switching Systems, 1983 modems, RS-232 keyboards, and other user-supplied RS-232 compatible devices, are connected via a JJ0007 modular cable to the Terminal Box. The Terminal Box connects to the 1646S 6-pin connector with 18 AWG shielded, computer-grade cable.

POWER INPUT Power Input CAUTION - The following instructions for power input require the installer to gain access to internal terminals and power wiring which involve hazardous voltages and the risk of electric shock. Power wiring must be done only by qualified electricians or service personnel and should conform to local codes.
Power Up Auto Sense On initial power up, the 1646 performs an automatic determination of the reference voltage sense for the pan/tilt and lens connections for preset capability. When power is first connected, the 1646 commands the camera to pan, tilt, change iris, zoom, and focus to determine the polarity of the reference voltage connections.
