    1.2 About this Manual This is a user manual for the Iridium Pilot system. The readers of the manual include anyone who is using or intends to use this system. No specific skills are required to operate the Iridium Pilot.     2. Make sure the valid Iridium Pilot SIM card is installed in the SIM holder and the SIM card slide locking tab is in the correct position. RJ-45 port is connected to a computer, switch, router or server, and RJ-11 ports are co nn ected to hand sets.

    2.8 SIM Validation & LED Indicators In order to access the Iridium network, the BDE must have a valid SIM card installed. The number and type (“Stan dard ” o r “Crew”) o f voice lin es available is set when yo ur Service Provider provisio ns (enables) th e SIM card .

    IP Address This is the IP address o f th e Iridium Pilot un it as seen from the vessel. Th e facto ry d efault is 192.168 .0 .1 . Yo u should not change this default unless there is already LAN equipment on the vessel, in which case you must set this to an unused IP add ress o f sh ip -sid e LAN.
  • Page 20 In order to establish a static public IP address, you must contact your SP. Iridium has established a range of IP addresses for use on Pilot. There is a monthly fee for the setup of a static public IP address. Contact your SP for more details on static public IP address for Pilot.

GRE allows for IP packets to be tunneled from a corporate LAN to a network on the PC side of a Pilot ISU, exposing the services available on the corporate LAN to the network at the installation location. An automated notification is provided on the Device Config ura tio n p age o f the IBSU GUI, ind icating a newer version is available .

Important The Iridium Pilot unit supports “connect on demand” and will make a connection across the Iridium network if a data device tries to access an address outside the local area network. It is the user’s responsibility to secure the system from o utside access.

    BDE. Telephony calls on a standard line can be placed by dialing the country code followed by the number and a “#” symbol. Iridium Pilot does not require a “+” or “00” prior to entering the country code. Crew calls require the use of the pre-programmed buttons on the crew handset Iridium provides.

Placing a call requires pressing a dedicated speed-dial button, then entering the phone number followed by the #.
