Forwarding Mode

This page allows you to specify the forwarding mode,
as shown in

The fields are:
Forwarding Mode Fast Forward / Fragment Free /
Store and Forward / Intelligent
This field specifies the forwarding mode, which can
be one of the following:
Fast Forward — This mode ensures the shortest
forwarding delay (latency). However, the switch is
not able to block errors or collision fragments. In
this mode, the forwarding delay, or latency, for all
frames is just 40µs.

Fragment Free — This mode is similar to the Fast
Forward except that it ensures that collision
fragments are not propagated through the
network. In this mode, the forwarding delay, or
latency, for all frames is 64µs.
Store and Forward — This mode has the longest
forwarding delay but ensures that only good
frames are forwarded. The forwarding delay for
this mode varies between 64µs and 1.2ms,
depending on frame length. In this mode the
latency, measured as the time between receiving
the last bit of the frame and transmitting the first
bit, is 8µs.
Intelligent — This mode ensures that the switch
automatically selects the optimal mode of
operation.
Intelligent Forwarding Shows the forwarding state
if the Forwarding Mode is set to Intelligent.
