P900 New Features in Detail
Improved screen and flip
The P900 screen has an improved colour depth, i.e. 65,536 colours compared to 4,096 colours in the P800.
A variable intensity backlight replaces the fixed intensity front light.
The flip has been reduced in size allowing more of the screen to be viewed in the flip closed mode. This
gives a flip closed viewing size of 208 by 208 pixels compared to the P800's 208 by 144. The extra 64 pixels
are equivalent to an extra three lines of text. The overall size of the screen (flip open) remains the same.
The flip now has electrical switches to give the reduced size a favourable tactile action.
Physical size
The new 57 x 115 x 24 mm size is slightly smaller than the P800, and there is a corresponding reduction in
weight – now 150 g.
Internal memory
The flash memory has been increased from 32 MB to 48 MB ram and this has increased the available user
memory, which is now 16 MB.
Memory Stick Duo
P900 still uses the same MMFH (multimedia file handling) system as the P800. However, the introduction of
the File Manager application allows the user to access files stored outside of P900's MMFH system. For
example, the File Manager can be used to move image files stored by a digital camera on a Memory Stick to
a folder within the P900's MMFH system. The images can then be accessed by the P900's applications, e.g.
an image may be used in a multimedia message or viewed in the Pictures application. From the Pictures
application it is also possible to export images directly to a Memory Stick DCIM root directory from which
they can be accessed by for instance a digital camera.
CommuniCorder
The new MMS linking facility allows rapid addition of pictures and/or
sound to MMS messages.
The inclusion of a video recorder is a significant addition to the
multimedia facilities of the P900. It uses the QCIF picture size (176 by
144 pixels) with H.263 or MPEG-4 video compression and AMR
sound compression to provide an economical video clip file size of
approximately 1 MB per minute.
