Procedure
– Lay the machine on its side on a stable base.
– Open the lever [4.4].
– Remove the sub base [4.1].
– Release the lever [4.4] again.
– Insert a template guide [4.3] in the correct posi-
tion on the router base.
– Insert the tabs [4.2] on a sub base into the router
base.
– Push down the sub base until it engages in the
router base.
The overhang Y of the workpiece in relation the
template [Fig. 5] is calculated as follows:
Y = ½ (diameter of template guide minus diameter
of routing bit)
Routing with a guide rail system FS
The guide railsystem makes it easier to
route straight grooves.
– Secure the guide rail to the workpiece using
clamps [5.4].
– Insert the sub base [5.3] for the guide rail at-
tachment into the router base (see "Changing
the sub base").
 This sub base is offset to compensate for the
height of the guide rail.
– Secure both guide rods [5.6] with the rotary
knobs [5.5] and [5.9] on the guide rail attach-
ment.
– Unscrew the rotary knob [5.1].
– Insert the guide rods [5.6] into the grooves on
the router base.
– Place the router with the guide rail attachment
on the guide rail.
– If required, you can adjust the play of the guide
rail attachment on the guide rail by adjusting
the two guidance jaws [5.2] with a screwdriver.
– Slide the router along the guide rods until the
routing tool reaches the required distance X
from the guide rail.
– Tighten the rotary knob [5.1].
– Loosen the rotary knob [5.10].
– Turn the adjusting wheel [5.7] to adjust the
distance X more precisely.
 Hold the adjusting wheel [5.7] to turn the scale
[5.8] independently to "zero".
– Tighten the rotary knob [5.10].
8 Changing the sub base
Festool offers special sub bases (see sticker on
lid) for different applications.
Change the sub base as follows:
– Lay the machine on its side on a stable base.
– Open the lever [4.4].
– Remove the sub base [4.1].
– Release the lever [4.4] again.
– Insert the tabs [4.2] on a sub base into the router
base.
– Push down the sub base until it engages in the
router base.
