Make sure all the equipment has warmed up and all connectors are clean.

Linearity Test
Even though there is no specification for this parameter, it is recommended to
test the linearity first to make sure that the other tests give the correct results.
1. Set up and switch on the equipment.

Connect up the equipment as shown in the figure:

Switch on the lightwave multimeter, and the attenuator, and leave them
to warm up.
Switch on the E5970A (DUT), holding the ONIOFF key until
PERPI

shown on the display.
Make sure that all patchcords are fixed to the table so that they won't
move during measurements.
Set the Laser Source to 1310nm (nominal)
Set both the 8153A power meter and the attenuator to the actual
wavelength of the laser source.
