2. GP Silent Models: Adjusting the Shank Stopper and Regulating Rods

GP silent models include a quick escapement mechanism that automatically accelerates the jack escape when the
piano is placed into silent mode. For this reason the let-off can generally be adjusted in the same way as on a con-
ventional acoustic grand piano.
The shank stop mechanism utilized in GP silent models consists of the following parts.
1. Shank Stopper
2. Regulating Rod
3. Jack with two knobs
4. Silent lever or Motor Drive (MD) Unit
The drive mechanism may be any of three types, as follows.

Adjustments
1. LET OFF and DROP adjustment:
2. SHANK STOPPER ANGLE adjustment: Use the cable adjuster, or adjust the MD-unit stroke.
[MD-Unit Adjustments]
MD-unit adjustment is generally not required. Carry out this adjustment only if the shank-stopper
adjuster (cable adjustment) does not produce acceptable results.

Adjust the cable adjuster (mounted on the drive cable) so that the hammer shanks hit
the shank stopper perpendicularly during silent-mode operation. If the necessary
adjustment cannot be made with the cable adjuster, adjust the MD unit (see Fig. 1).
Note that the MarkIII does not require this adjustment (it does not include a cable
adjuster and does not require adjustment of the MD unit).
