Fluid Level -
A u to m atic Transm ission
C h eck th e flu id level in th e a u to m a tic
tra n s m is s io n re g ularly and p rio r to an
e x te n d e d trip .
C h eck tra n s m is s io n flu id level w ith
the e n gine id lin g, p a rkin g brake
en ga ge d and s e le c to r lever in p o s i­
tio n " P " . The veh icle m u s t be pa rked
on level g ro u n d . P rio r to th e che ck,
allow e n gine to idle fo r ap p ro x. 1 to
2 m in utes.
M easure flu id level w ith th e d ip s tic k
c o m p le te ly in se rte d and th e lo ckin g
lever relea sed (1).
E xtrem e cle a n lin e ss m u s t be
o b s e rv e d ! To w ip e th e d ip s tic k , use a
clean, lin t-fre e c lo th . To fill th e tra n s ­
m issio n w ith flu id , p o u r it th ro u g h a
fin e -m e sh filte r in to th e d ip s tic k o p e n ­
ing. Even th e s lig h te s t im p u rity may
cause o p e ra tio n a l tro u b le s .
The flu id level in th e tra n s m is s io n is
d e p e n d e n t up on its te m p e ra tu re . The
m axim um and m inim um flu id level
m a rks on th e d ip s tic k are ap plicab le
re fe re n c e s on ly if th e tra n sm issio n
flu id has rea che d its norm al op e ra tin g
te m p e ra tu re of 80 °C (176 °F ).
Im p ortan t!
If th e tra n s m is s io n flu id c o o ls do w n to
2 0 - 3 0 °C ( 6 8 - 8 6 °F ), w h ich is the
no rm al sh o p te m p e ra tu re range, then
the m axim um flu id level w ill be
a p p ro x im a te ly 10 mm (0.4 in) b e lo w
the m in im um m ark on the d ip s tic k .

The flu id level m u s t n o t e xce e d the
d ip s tic k m axim um m ark w ith the fluid
at o p e ra tin g te m p e ra tu re . Drain o r
s ip h o n o ff e xce ss fluid, if re q uire d.
