Controlling VCRs which have the COMMAND MODE
selector
To control a VCR with the remote commander, set the COMMAND
MODE selectors on the remote commander and the VCR to the same
COMMAND
position. The COMMAND MODE*
MODE
remote commanders are factory set to VTR3. Be sure to set the
VHS TUNER
COMMAND MODE selector on each VCR to a different position to
operate each VCR independently.
VISUAL POWER
VIDEO 1
If the COMMAND MODE selector on a VCR is set to OFF, you cannot
control that VCR with the remote commander.
VIDEO 2
If the COMMAND MODE selector on this unit is set to OFF, although
VHS LINE
you cannot control the unit's VCR with the remote commander,
MASTER VOL +/–, MUTING, and the function buttons on the remote
commander can operate the unit.

The selector's name on the unit is VTR COMMAND MODE, however, it is
SHIFT
described as COMMAND MODE in these Operating Instructions for the sake of
convenience.
Controlling a VCR which doesn't have a COMMAND
MODE selector
If a VCR has no COMMAND MODE selector, set COMMAND MODE
on the remote commander in the following way.
If your VCR is a
Sony Betamax format VCR
Sony 8mm formatVCR
Sony VHS format VCR
If you have another VHS format VCR, set COMMAND MODE on the
unit to VTR1 or VTR2.
Turning on and controlling the unit's VCR
1 Set COMMAND MODE on the remote commander to the same
position as COMMAND MODE on the unit.
2 Press VHS TUNER.
• If the TV doesn't turn on or the LINE 1 is not selected on the TV,
turn it on manually.
• If connected with only the antenna cable, set the TV to the video
channel.
