3.4.6 Control subsystem description

There are 3 types of interfaces for communication between the Second Level Controller Cards and the
8PSO Port:
– ISPB: Intra Shelf Parallel Bus
– SPI: Serial Peripheral and Inventory Bus
– HW_CFG: Hardware Configuration Bus
3.4.6.1 ISPB Bus
Intra Shelf Parallel Bus provides a backplane communication channel between Second Level Controller
(SLC) and every Transport card in the same shelf.
By means of ISPB the Second Level Controller can load proper configuration settings within the internal
registers of EUCLIDE and FERMAT, monitor the current status and collect data for performance
monitoring.
3.4.6.2 SPI Bus
By means of SPI (Serial Peripheral and Inventory) bus and GOBLIN_4G Cpld housed on Port card, the
Second Level Controller is able to perform the following task:
– gathering of Port card power supply failure alarms
– gathering of Optical LOS alarms
– detection of SFP optical modules presence
– access to/from onboard EEPROM for Remote Inventory data via local SPI Bus
– access to/from a dedicated A/D converter to collect electric data (voltage levels, current values)
– moreover, via KYRA Cpld, it is possible to:
• control card status led on front-panel
• gain access (via SPI-I2C bridge integrated within KYRA) of SFP Remote Inventory data (serial
ID, digital diagnostics)
• monitor FERMAT junction temperature and card temperature values
3.4.6.3 HW_CFG Bus
By means of the Hardware Configuration Bus the Second Level Controller is able to access to the
HW_CFG bridge function implemented inside the GOBLIN_4G device.
This function is able to grant both the access in read and write modality to the Flash Memory and also
the transfer of the downloaded Configuration Data from Flash memory to FERMAT via the FPGA's parallel
configuration interface.
Furthermore HW_CFG allows the remote control of this download procedure.
