3.2 XFP MODULES and XFP ADAPTER

(Refer to Figure 16. on page 41)
Different XFP modules type are available as reported in Chapter 2 of the "Technical Handbook Common";
some of them require a XFP mechanical adapter (XFP-E ADAPTER) to be inserted into the board
(example 1P10GSO).
The functional description that follow can be applied to all of them.
The module is a 10Gbit/s serial-to-serial transceiver, made of two independent optical transmitter and
receiver.
The transmitter gets the electrical data input through the 30-position pluggable edge connector, performs
3R regeneration via a CDR and converts the regenerated signal in the optical data output using a Laser.
The receiver detect the optical data input via a Photo Detector, performs 3R regeneration via a CDR and
sends the regenerated signal through the 30-position pluggable edge connector.
Input and output signals have NRZ format. A block diagram is depicted in Figure 16. on page 41.
The module is equipped with an I
module:
Monitor signals
Alarms signals
Control signals
Remote inventory (EEPROM)
Alarms and commands:
LOS XFP: Loss Of Signal
FAIL XFP: XFP fault
RESET XFP: module reset
LASER OFF: the laser source is turned off
PRES XFP: module physically present
