Warning!
Even with 4MATIC, the driver
should adapt his or her driving
style to the prevailing road
conditions. The capabilities of
a 4MATIC equipped vehicle do
not eliminate the dangers as
sociated with driving under
hazardous conditions. Do not
be misled by the vehicle's
acceleration ability on slippery
roads. Excessive speed on
wet, icy or snow covered
roads, following another ve
hicle too closely or aquaplan
ing can result in loss of ve
hicle control jeopardizing the
user's safety or the safety of
others.
Note:
If the 4MATIC indicator lamp and
function indicator lamp both light
up with the engine running, a
malfunction has been detected.
Should this condition occur, park
the vehicle in a safe location,
open the hood and move the lever
of the service valve (located in the
right side of the engine compart
ment) to the stop in position 2.
The vehicle will now be driven
only by the rear wheels.
The vehicle level control system
will not function with the service
valve lever in position 2.
If a malfunction as described
above has been detected, we
recommend that you drive in
position 2 and visit an authorized
MERCEDES-BENZ dealer as
soon as possible to have the
4MATIC checked.
Before the vehicle is ''driven" on
a chassis dynamometer, the ser
vice valve lever must be set to
position 2. The 4MATIC warning
lamp comes on in position 2 and
goes out only after the service
valve lever is returned to posi
tion 1. The dynamometer test
must not exceed 15 minutes.
Before towing the vehicle, follow
the instruction on page 92.
