Foot Pedal Assembly Service

FOOT PEDAL PAD REPLACEMENT

1. Remove the worn foot pedal pad (A, Figure 3) using
a large adjustable open-end wrench placed over the
flats of the foot pedal arm (B) next to the pad. Tap
the wrench with a hammer or rubber mallet to slide
the pad off the arm.
Pads that resist removal with this method may be
heated lightly with a heat gun or blow dryer to expand
the pad slightly, allowing it to be separated from the
arm.
NOTE: When using a heat gun use a low heat setting
and keep the gun 4-6" away from the pad while moving
back and forth to provide even heating. Avoid heating
the foot pedal assembly arm, as this will reduce the
effectiveness of heating the pad to separate it from the
arm.
2. Slide the new pad on to the foot pedal arm as shown
in Figure 3. If the pedal pad cannot be slid onto the
pedal arm, apply a light application of soapy water to
the end of the foot pedal arm.
3. Tap the outer portion of the pad with a rubber mallet
to make sure it is fully seated on the arm.
FOOT PEDAL ASSEMBLY &
FRONT CLUTCH ROD REMOVAL
1. Remove the mower deck. See Mower Deck Repair.
2. Using an overhead chain hoist, raise the front of the
rider. See Elevating Front of Unit for Safe Service. in
the Wheel Repair section.
3. Remove the foot pedal pad. See Foot Pedal Pad
Replacement.
4. Remove the return spring (1, Figures 1 and 2)
5. Remove the clip ring (18, Figure 1; 15, Figure 2) from
the foot pedal pivot.
6. Remove the foot pedal pivot (A, Figure 4).
7. Remove the cotter pin and washer securing the front
clutch rod (10, Figure 1; 9, Figure 2) to the pivot shaft
assembly (21, Figure 1, 26, Figure 2).
8. Separate the right front tie rod (C, Figure 4) from the
spindle assembly (D) and remove the front clutch rod
10, Figure 1; 9, Figure 2).
9. Remove the foot pedal arm (B, Figure 4) from the
frame.
Inspect the arm and pivot for damage and replace as
necessary.
Install the front clutch rod and foot pedal assembly in
reverse order of disassembly.

Never use a heat gun or blow dryer if flammable
vapors are present, as the heating element could
ignite the vapor and cause a fire or explosion.
