Spray Tip and Pressure Selection

Spray Tips come in a variety of sizes for spraying a range of fluids. Your sprayer includes a
Spray Tip for use in most paint spraying applications. See Coatings Chart below to find the
correct Spray Tip size for your coating. Refer to paint (material) can for manufacturer's
recommendation. Alternate Spray Tip sizes can be purchased where sprayers are sold.
•
Spray Tip hole size is calculated by the last two digits of the Spray Tip size, the "15" in
"515" means the Spray Tip hole size is .015 inch.
Do not use a Spray Tip hole size larger than what is supported by your sprayer:
•
Project Painter Plus and X5 and LTS15 max Spray Tip size: 0.015 inch.
•
X7 and LTS17 max Spray Tip size: 0.017 inch.

Use a smaller Spray Tip hole size when applying thinner materials and larger sizes for
thicker materials.
•
The larger the size of the Spray Tip hole, the faster the material leaves the gun. A 313
Spray Tip sprays faster than a 411 Spray Tip.
•
As you spray, the Spray Tip wears and as a result, the hole size gets larger. Starting with
a Spray Tip hole size smaller than the maximum will allow you to spray longer within the
rated flow capacity of the sprayer.
•
Spray Tips wear with use and need periodic replacement.
Spray Tip Fan Width
Fan width is the size of the spray pattern, which determines the area covered with each stroke.
•
The first digit in the Spray Tip size is doubled to determine the approximate fan width.
The "5" in "515" equals an approximate 10 inch spray fan width (5 x 2 = 10).
