1.1 DEFINITIONS

These d&nitions describe terms as they relate
specifically to series 300 installation, operation
or maintenance. Rather than being
alphabetized, they are presented in an order
most appropriate to understanding the UPS.
Uninterruptible Power System (UPS)
All components within UPS Module Cabinet
and separate Battery Cabinet which
function as a system tc provide ccntinuous,
conditioned AC power to a load.
UPS Module
under supervision of the Internal Control
System and Operator Controls, provides
specified AC power to a critical load.
UPS Module Cabinet
Metal enclosure containing rectitIer/charger,
inverter, static transfer switch, static bypass
line, maintcnsace bypass line, external
operator controls, and internal control
system required to provide spedfied AC
power tc a load.
Battery Cabinet
Cabinet containing sealed battery cells
to speciiications in SECTION 6 -
SPECIFICATIONS.
Input Power
Power provided by the electrical utility
company (or auxiliary generator) and
connected to the UPS input.
Input Filter
Reduces recti&r input current distortion to
10% THD at full load. This Slter also
improves the input power factor,
Input Isolation Transformer
A delta-to-n-ye isolation transformer for the
UPS module input. Provides common mode
noise attenuation for all system operating
modes including while on bypass. Also
provides single-point ground for the system.
l-2 Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual
Input Auto Transformer
A delta-to-wye auto transformer for the UPS
module input. Enables UPS module to be
installed with external maintenance bypass
cabinet without requiring a transformer in
the external maintenance bypass line.
Rectifier/Charger
UPS component containing equipment and
controls for converting input AC power to
regulated DC power required for battery
charging and for supplying power to the
UPS component containing equipment and
controls for converting DC power from
power required by the critical load.
Internal Control System
Signal processing circuits which
power conversion processes, detect fault
conditions and control the UPS operating
sequence.
Operator Controls and Display
display used by operators to monitor and
control the UPS. See SECTION 3 -
OPERATION of this manual.
Static Bypass Line
Line conducting unconditioned input power
Switch. Transfer of load between this line
and the UPS inverter output occurs under
supervision of the Internal Control System.
Static Transfer Switch
Device transferring the critical load between
UPS inverter output and Static Bypass Line.
Transfer
The critical load is transferred from the UPS
Retransfer
The critical load is automatically
retransferred from the Static Bypass Line
back to the UPS inverter output.
