For "Dumb" transfer switches such as GTS or third party, the first
two commands act exactly the same except for an output contact
that closes for exercise with transfer. In a full system configuration,
this contact is wired to cause at least one transfer switch to see
a loss of utility, thereby forcing the transfer when the generators
come on line. In either type of exercise, the generators all come
on line and parallel to one another for the specified exercise time
period.
For "Intelligent" switches that are communications enabled (the
MTS range), exercise with transfer is automatically controlled with
no extra wiring. The transfer switches are commanded to transfer
as required, via the RS485 communications link.
Low speed exercise (Quiet Test mode) will cause all engines to
exercise quietly at a lower speed, without transfer. If utility is lost
during exercise, the generators will accelerate to normal speed
before transferring the load.
Base load exercise is for Soft Load switches only and allows the
generators to exercise under load in parallel with the utility. Only the
generator side of the transfer switch will be activated and the load
will remain connected to the utility (in parallel with the generator).
The base load can be programmed into the Kw setting field. The
power factor is fixed at 1.00 for exercise and cannot be adjusted.
3.2.2

KW AND POWER FACTOR LIMITS

These settings are only used to set up "Exercise with base load"
or "Base load" modes. The Kw setting is used to program what
power the system will produce for a base load.
3.2.3

START DATE AND END DATE

These dates indicate the times of the year that the command is
active. This applies only to exercise commands, as the standby
command is always active.
3.2.4

START TIME AND STOP TIME

This setting controls the time period that an exercise command
is active.
3.2.5

EXCLUDED DAYS

This setting allows the user to exclude certain days of the week
from the exercise command. It also allows the preset holiday dates
to be excluded.

3.3 HOLIDAY SETTINGS

The screen in Figure 3.4 allows the setting and editing of "holi-
days" or days in which the generator will not run.

3.4 SYSTEM SETTINGS

Figure 3.5 shows the system settings screen. The following sys-
tem settings can be changed:

CRITICAL LOAD KW

This value is only used if the Load Shed Enable box is checked.
The number entered here tells the PM-SC the minimum standby
load. If the system cannot supply this minimum load, the entire
system shuts down. This value is typically set to be equal to the
size of the smallest generator in the system.
