Important safety notes

WARNING
If the engine is switched off automatically and
you exit the vehicle, the engine is restarted
automatically. The vehicle may begin moving.
There is a risk of accident and injury.
If you wish to exit the vehicle, always turn off
the ignition and secure the vehicle against
rolling away.
General notes
ECO start/stop display (example: color

multifunction display)
The ECO start/stop function switches the
engine off automatically when the vehicle
stops moving, if:
the ¤ symbol appears in the
R
multifunction display in vehicles with black
and white multifunction display
the ¤ symbol appears in green in the
R
multifunction display in vehicles with a
color multifunction display.
The stop/start function is automatically
activated each time you start the engine with
the SmartKey.
If the ECO start/stop function has been
manually deactivated (
Y
malfunction has caused the system to be
deactivated, the ¤ symbol is not
displayed.

Automatic engine switch-off

General notes
The ECO stop/start function is operational
and displays the following in the multifunction
display:

If not all conditions for an automatic engine
switch-off are met:

a green ¤ symbol in vehicles with a

the indicator lamp in the ECO button is lit
green.
the outside temperature is within the range
that is suitable for the system.
the engine is at normal operating
temperature.
the set temperature for the vehicle interior
has been reached.
the battery is sufficiently charged.
the system detects that the windshield is
not fogged up when the air-conditioning
system is switched on.
the hood is closed.
the driver's door is closed and the driver's
seat belt is fastened.
the ¤ symbol does not appear in
vehicles with a black and white
multifunction display
a yellow ¤ symbol appears in vehicles
with a color multifunction display
All of the vehicle's systems remain active
when the engine has been stopped
automatically.
The engine can be switched off
automatically a maximum of four times
(first stop and three subsequent stops) in
succession.
In vehicles with a black and white
multifunction display, the automatic engine
switch-off is then available again after the
